Its been a little while since the last blog but a trip to Scotland after Skate was the main diversion and a spell of bad weather didn't help. Anyway this weekend saw the temperatures rise and the sun come out. A quick check around the lakes Friday and all looked great for good friends the Aldridges visit Saturday. The Carp happily munched the free bread i chucked in although there were only two fish really interested the rest seemed to be feasting on the abundant tadpoles, the thick reeds shaking as they cleaned them off. I even witnessed a gang of several hundred tadpoles using a piece of breadcrust as a raft to escape, shame they didn't plan it better as they were all swimming the same way causing the bread to spin enticingly.

I walked back to the bottom lake and spotted a quick brown blur run across the timber step, a few minutes patience paid off as the little Lizard returned and posed contently for a picture, love to see the reptiles doing well.

Carl & Wendy travelled through the night and were ready for breakfast at 6am sharp, once consumed we got over to the lakes by 7.30am. The guys were soon set up and stalking the first Carp, i chucked a bit of bread around the margins and awaited the usual loud slurps of the obliging Carp. The Carp never arrived and creeping around the margins i noticed the reed twitching of the previous day was continuing as the Carp munched the dense tadpoles. Finally Carl connected and he shouted for his son Kyle to take over the fight, Kyle was not keen on doing a tag team effort preferring to hook and land his own fish. I slid the net under the feisty Common and it was one on the board, so the blank was saved.

The next few hours were frustrating to say the least the fish really were not that interested and occasionally we managed to trick one into taking floatfished corn, the fact they were not really feeding on our baits lead to poor hooks ups and we lost several fish due to hook pulls. We decided to have a go on the Golden pond and Kyle soon had one of the numerous small Golden Orfe, Wendy then did the same but alas Carl didnt get his Golden Tench this time.

Next move was down to the Tench Lake to try for a Green Tench, Chris arrived and persuaded Kyle to go and try to get one of the few remaining carp in the stock pond. Shortly after Kyle returned beaming from ear to ear having landed a pretty little mirror from the little pond that was now able to join the other carp.

Down on the Tench lake Wendy lost a nice Tench but this was the theme for the day, many what ifs and if only, but that's fishing. The good thing was that young Kyle was kicking the trend and having a great day, with a bit of help from Chris he was into his first ever green Tench and a lovely fish to start on just under 3lb.

With Kyle having achieved his target we returned to try and get Carl and Wendy a decent Carp. Despite working really hard and being surrounded by fish we couldn't tempt them to touch a bait. We packed up somewhat confused and took solace in the form of a lovely Indian meal. Great spending time with this special family and next time they will get those biggies. Sunday morning after Carl, Wendy & Kyle headed home i called in the lakes to put in a bit of feed and check we hadn't left anything. I chucked in the obligatory few slices of bread and sods law fish began rising and taking the bait confidently, i filmed a bit on the phone to show Carl and to prove they are in there. Within 20 minutes i had 6 fish swirling at my feet including a couple of cracking commons, it really is if they knew.
